Algerian Embassy in Dhaka observes National Martyrs' Day

The Embassy of Algeria have observed the National Martyrs' Day today (18 February) with a solemn programme attended by academics, journalists, business leaders, students and other dignitaries.

Mowlana Muhammad Anowarul Haque led special prayers for the martyrs. Guests later watched a documentary film highlighting the significance of National Martyrs' Day and its historical context.
Addressing the programme, Algerian Ambassador HE Abdelouahab Saidani paid tribute to the martyrs and reflected on their sacrifices, highlighting their fight for justice, human dignity, and self-determination, principles.
On this year's theme, "Faithful to the Martyrs' Pact," the ambassador said the commemoration urges honouring the martyrs through remembrance and continued national progress. He noted their sacrifices as a moral foundation for Algeria's sovereignty and dignity.
The ambassador recalled the UN's recognition of Algeria's right to self-determination on 18 February 1957, and paid tribute to martyrs Larbi Ben M'hidi and Didouche Mourad, urging their legacy be preserved through unity and national development.
He further noted Algeria's efforts to uphold historical truth, including the enactment of legislation criminalising injustices committed during French colonisation. He said the law stands as a tribute to the martyrs and aims to foster international relations based on mutual respect and understanding.

The programme ended with a pledge to uphold the martyrs' pact, symbolising the link between past sacrifices and future aspirations.
The Algerian Embassy reaffirmed its commitment to preserving the martyrs' legacy and deepening Algeria-Bangladesh friendship.
