AL, BNP supporters clash over 'Joy Bangla' slogan after Eid prayers in Natore
Several rounds of blank shots were reportedly exchanged between both sides, resulting in one person sustaining bullet injury

A clash erupted between the supporters of Awami League and BNP over chanting "Joy Bangla" slogan following Eid prayers in Lalpur, Natore this morning (31 March).
The incident occurred around 9am at the Ramakrishnapur Eidgah ground in Lalpur upazila, leaving one person injured with bullet.
Law enforcement members later conducted raids in various locations, arresting nine individuals.
According to locals, after the morning Eid prayers, Awami League, Jubo League, and Chhatra League workers began chanting "Joy Bangla" slogans. This provoked anger among BNP leaders, workers, and local residents, leading to a confrontation.
The BNP supporters and locals initially chased Awami League and Chhatra League members, who later retaliated with sticks and hurled bricks, escalating the situation into a violent clash, said local residents.
Several rounds of blank shots were reportedly exchanged between both sides.
A young man, Sabbir Hossain, sustained injuries during the confrontation and was taken to Lalpur Upazila Health Complex for treatment.
Lalpur Police Station Officer-in-Charge Nazmul Haque stated that trouble began when a young man chanted "Joy Bangla" after the prayer, provoking a reaction from the locals.
He said the situation escalated when supporters of the young man intervened, leading to further confrontations.
In response to the incident, witnesses said Lalpur Union BNP leaders and activists organised a protest procession and rally. During the rally, local BNP leaders accused "fascist forces" of attempting to destabilise the country and disrupt the peaceful Eid atmosphere.
Upon receiving reports of the clash, police were deployed to the scene.
Authorities have since increased security in the area to prevent further unrest.
