Airlines instructed to inform passengers of flight disruptions amid Middle East airspace closures
Due to the situation, several commercial flights on affected routes have already been cancelled, delayed, or rescheduled, the airport authority says
The Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA) authority has instructed all concerned airlines to inform passengers in advance about flight cancellations, delays, or rescheduling through SMS, email, and call centres following temporary airspace closures in parts of the Middle East.
The directive was issued today (28 February) after civil aviation authorities in several countries, including Bahrain, Kuwait, Dubai, and Qatar, announced temporary airspace closures amid heightened regional security risks linked to recent developments involving the Iran and Israel conflict.
Due to the situation, several commercial flights on affected routes have already been cancelled, delayed, or rescheduled, the airport authority said.
As part of its instructions, HSIA also directed airlines to ensure their staff remain present at the airport to provide passengers with necessary information and guidance. Airlines have been asked to provide clear and coordinated updates on rescheduled flights to minimise inconvenience and prevent unnecessary suffering for travellers.
Passengers planning to travel on affected Middle East routes have been advised to urgently contact their respective airlines or travel agencies to confirm flight status and take necessary measures before coming to the airport.
In a separate notice, Biman Bangladesh Airlines requested passengers travelling to destinations including Dammam, Jeddah, Madinah, Riyadh, Sharjah, and Abu Dhabi not to come to the airport without prior confirmation of their flight status. The airline asked passengers to contact its hotline 13636 for the latest updates.
Airport authorities said the situation is being closely monitored and further instructions will be issued as necessary to ensure passenger safety and maintain operational stability.
Meanwhile, Biman Bangladesh Airlines said it temporarily suspended all its Middle Eastern flights due to ongoing attacks in several Gulf countries.
"All Middle Eastern flights are put on hold due to ongoing attacks in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Qatar, Kuwait and Bahrain," Biman Bangladesh Airlines General Manager (Public relations) Bushra Islam told BSS.
She said the decision was taken to ensure the safety and security of passengers and crew amid the prevailing situation in the region.
