ACC sues Sheikh Selim, seeks wealth statements from wife and children
The decision was taken at a commission meeting held at the ACC headquarters today (1 March), ACC Director General Md Akhtar Hossain said
The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has decided to file a case against former lawmaker and senior Awami League leader Sheikh Fazlul Karim Selim over allegations of acquiring illegal assets worth Tk13.5 crore.
The decision was taken at a commission meeting held at the ACC headquarters today (1 March), ACC Director General Md Akhtar Hossain said.
The commission will also issue notices asking his wife, two sons and daughter to submit statements of their assets as part of an inquiry into suspected illicit wealth held in their names.
According to the ACC, its inquiry found evidence that Selim accumulated assets worth Tk13.5 crore beyond his known sources of income. Based on this finding, the commission approved filing a case against him under Section 27(1) of the ACC Act, 2004.
The ACC also suspects that Selim and his family members possess substantial assets in their own names or through proxies. To facilitate further investigation and identify those assets, the commission approved issuing orders under Section 26(1) of the law asking four members of his family to submit their wealth statements.
Those who have been served with notices are Selim's wife Fatema Selim, his two sons Sheikh Fazle Fahim and Sheikh Fazle Naeem, and daughter Sheikh Amena Sultana Sonia.
ACC sources said legal action will also be taken against them if they fail to submit their wealth statements within the stipulated time or provide false information.
The ACC began the inquiry following allegations that Selim abused his power as an MP to award tenders worth around Tk1,300 crore to preferred contractors and collected commissions of 10–15% from those projects.
