ACC raids Ctg election office over alleged bribery in NID correction process

The Anti-Corruption Commission has conducted a raid at the Chattogram regional election office to investigate allegations of bribery linked to the process of making corrections to four National Identity, or NID, cards.
A four-member team from the anti-graft watchdog, led by Chattogram Metropolitan ACC Assistant Director Emran Hossain, conducted the raid yesterday. They also investigated four suspicious bank accounts on allegation of making unethical transactions.
"There are allegations that transaction have been made though four bank account numbers. Relevant authorities of the election office have been asked to provide information to this end. However, they have said that the accounts are not theirs. Now, it will be verified whose names the accounts are registered to," said ACC Assistant Director Emran.
During the raid, the ACC team also sat for talks with the officials of Chattogram regional and district election office, and scutinised relevant documents.
Election Officer at Chattogram regional election office Belayet Hossain said the correction issues to the four NIDs, investigated by the ACC, have already been resolved. However, The ACC has been given details regarding the activities of the election office as they inquired.
"If anyone of the office proves to be involved in any irregularities, action must be taken against them," he said.
