8 killed in a day by lightning strikes in four districts
The deceased include a Bangladesh Agriculture University (BAU) student from Cumilla

At least eight people were killed and two others injured by lightning strikes today (5 October) in Cumilla, Bogura, Kurigram, and Jhenaidah districts.
In Cumilla, three people, including a Bangladesh Agriculture University (BAU) student, died in a single lightning strike at Bhabanipur Kheyaghat in Homna upazila this afternoon.
The deceased were identified as Rashedul Islam, Mamtaz Begum and Zakia Sultana, all residents of Nala Dakkhin village.
A thunderbolt struck them and two others while they were waiting to cross a canal, killing the sisters, Mamtaz Begum and Zakia Sultana, instantly. Rashedul and two others, Samad Mia and Babul Mia, were rushed to Homna Upazila Health Complex, where Rashedul was pronounced dead.
In Jhenaidah, farmers Shimul Biswas of Armukhi village and Harmat Sheikh of Shekhar village were killed by lightning in Sadar and Shailkupa upazilas, respectively, amid heavy rain.
Kurigram also reported two deaths: Babul Mia, a madrasa student, and Sahibor, who was collecting grass in Bamondanga union, were struck while returning home and working in fields.
In Bogura, Shefali Begum of Madhyamacheo village, Gabtoli upazila, was killed on the spot while cutting grass during rainfall.
Police officials confirmed the fatalities occurred amid severe weather conditions, highlighting the dangers posed by sudden thunderstorms across the country.
