8 of 2 families killed in Pirojpur road crash
Among the deceased, four were children, two were men and two others were women, said police

Eight members of two families, including four children and two women, lost their lives after a car carrying them lost control and fell into a roadside canal in Pirojpur early today.
The deceased are Shawon, 32, his wife Amena Begum, 25, their sons Sahadat, 7, and Abdullah, 3, from Hoglabunia village of Pirojpur's Nazirpur upazila; and Motaleb, 45, his wife Sabina, 30, their two children Mukta, 10, and Shyeb, 2, from Bhimganj village of Sherpur Sadar upazila.
They met with the accident in Nurani Gate area on Najirpur road under Pirojpur's Sadar upazila around 2am, Additional Superintendent of Pirojpur District Police Mukit Hasan told The Business Standard.
The bodies have been kept at the morgue of Pirojpur Sadar Hospital, he added.
Shawon and his colleague Motaleb both worked in the civil department of the Bangladesh Army. The two families had travelled to Kuakata on Tuesday on a family trip and left for Dhaka on Wednesday while Shawon was driving the car.
"They were supposed to make a stopover at Shawon's village home in Nazirpur. Unfortunately, they could not make it. The entire family is now lost," added Murad, a cousin of Shawon.
Talha Bin Jashim, an official of Pirojpur Fire Service media cell, told TBS that on information around 2:15am, they reached the spot and started the rescue operation. Two units of firefighters took part in the rescue, and eight bodies were recovered from the car.
Meanwhile, Pirojpur Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Ashraful Alam Khan said the families of the victims will be given financial assistance from the district administration for burial of the deceased.
