70.92% work on metro rail Kamalapur section completed
The government has saved Tk185 crore from electro-mechanical work on the metro rail, particularly on the Motijheel-Kamalapur section
The extended Kamalapur section of the Dhaka Metro Rail was 70.92% complete as of January 31, with authorities aiming to finish the 1.16-kilometre stretch by next year.
"Physical work on the Motijheel-to-Kamalapur section has progressed rapidly," said Project Director of Metro Line-6, Brigadier General (retd) Md Abdul Wahab, adding that electric devices, including automated doors, the signaling system, and other equipment, will be installed next year, with the section expected to start commercial operations in April or May.
"Track installation will be completed within the next two to three months," he further said.
Meanwhile, the government has saved Tk185 crore from electro-mechanical work on the metro rail, particularly on the Motijheel-Kamalapur section.
By December 2025, construction of all 177 piles, pile caps, piers, and station columns was completed, along with the precast parapet walls, the station's steel roof structure, and steel erection work, while overall progress reached 99.97% on the Uttara North–Motijheel section and 69.85% on the Motijheel–Kamalapur section as of December 31.
Additionally, 2,800 square metres of brick wall and plaster work at the concourse level have been finished, while construction and installation of electrical and mechanical systems continue.
Earlier, DMTC Managing Director Faruque Ahmed said the Kamalapur section is scheduled to open on January 1, 2027, as system and track preparation work continues.
