70-year-old father beaten by his children over land dispute in Narayanganj

A shocking video of three children assaulting their elderly father over a land dispute in Narayanganj's Sonargaon upazila has gone viral on social media, sparking widespread outrage.
The incident occurred yesterday (27 April) in the Ashariarchar area of Pirojpur union.
The 70-year-old man, Abdur Rahim, was severely injured and left bloodied after being attacked by his two sons, Zahirul Islam and Saiful Islam, and his daughter, Halima Akter.
In the widely circulated video, the siblings are seen beating their father in broad daylight on a street near their home.
One of the sons, who has blood on his shirt, is heard admitting that he beat his father.
According to locals, following the death of his first wife, Abdur Rahim remarried, which led to ongoing family tensions. Recently, Rahim decided to sell his house, a move that angered his children. When they confronted him yesterday about the decision, an argument broke out, escalating into a violent assault.
Hearing Rahim's cries for help, neighbours rushed to the spot and took him to the Sonargaon Upazila Health Complex for treatment.
Meanwhile, son Zahirul Islam admitted to the assault, claiming that they were desperate to prevent their father from selling the house, which would have left them homeless.
He expressed regret over the incident.
Sonargaon Police Station Officer-in-Charge Mohammad Mofizur Rahman said they were informed about the assault.
"We have not yet received a formal complaint. Once we do, we will take appropriate action," he said.
Abdul Jalil, a local resident, said, "This is the first time such a disgraceful act has happened in our village. We are deeply ashamed, and the perpetrators must face justice."
