The Department of Environment (DoE) fined seven brick kilns a total of Tk41 lakh for operating without the required permits from the department and for other violations today (24 December).

The fined brick kilns are Mahee Enterprise, Swarna Bricks, Shotota Bricks-4, Shotota Bricks-5, Hiru Enterprise, Sohag Bricks, and Ak Bricks in Dhamarai.

"A mobile court led by Executive Magistrate Md Rezwan-Ul-Islam of DoE conducted the raid on the brick kilns located in various areas of the upazila," the Upazila Nirbahi Officer Mamnoon Ahmed Anik told The Business Standard.

"Among them, Mahee Enterprise, Swarna Bricks, Shotota Bricks-4 and Shotota Bricks-5 were fined Tk5 lakh each while Hiru Enterprise, Sohag Bricks, and Ak Bricks were fined Tk7 lakh each," he added.

During the raid, Executive Magistrate Md Rezwan said, "This campaign of the DoE and the upazila administration against illegal brick kilns will continue."

Officers from the district and upazila administration, as well as members of local law enforcement, were present during the raid.
