Seven officials of Mymensingh Palli Bidyut Samity-2, including four officers and three linemen, have been temporarily suspended over the death of three students of the Islamic University of Technology (IUT) and the injury of several others in Gazipur.

The General Manager of Mymensingh Palli Bidyut Samity-2, Md Akmal Hossain, confirmed the matter last night (23 November).

"Senior officials of the Rural Electrification Board visited the spot after three IUT students died of electrocution on Saturday morning. Later, the REB authority temporarily suspended seven of its officials, including Deputy General Manager of Mymensingh Palli Bidyut Samity-2 Kamlesh Chandra Barman, Deputy General Manager of Mawna Zonal Office Khondker Mahmudul Hasan, Assistant General Manager Md Tanvir Salahuddin, Junior Engineer Motiur Rahman and linemen Parvez Mia, Shakhawat Hossain and Abul Kashem," Akmal said.

3 IUT students electrocuted: What eyewitnesses, survivors to tragedy say

The deceased are - Mozammel Hossain Naim, 24, Mostakim Rahman Mahin, 22, and Jobayer Alam Sakib, 22.

All of them were rushed to the Mymensingh Medical College Hospital.

The three deceased were students of IUT's Mechanical Engineering department, confirmed Deputy Director of Mymensingh Medical College Hospital Jakiul Islam.

Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner of Gazipur Nafisa Arefin has formed a three-member committee to investigate the incident.

Also, the IUT authority has formed a five-member probe committee to find out the reasons behind the accident.
