6 including Chinese nationals sentenced to jail in Brahmanbaria for operating illegal lead factory

A mobile court has sentenced six individuals, including three Chinese nationals, to 15 days in jail each for operating an illegal lead smelting factory in Brahmanbaria.
Ashuganj Upazila Administration conducted the raid yesterday afternoon (3 July) in the Sonarampur area in coordination with the Department of Environment.
The convicted individuals are Chinese nationals Zhana Yangliang, 44, Zhu Xingliang, 41, and San Benhua, 63, along with Bangladeshi citizens Iftiar Sikder, 33, Sohag Mia, 25, and Md Didar, 26.

The operation was led by Ashuganj Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Rafe Mohammad Shorha.
According to Rakibul Hasan, an inspector of the Department of Environment in Brahmanbaria, the factory was running without necessary environmental clearance.
The illegal lead smelting activities were causing severe air pollution, posing significant risks to the environment. The mobile court also shut down the factory's operations.
