6, including 5 women, detained for gathering outside PM’s Gulshan residence
The identities of the detainees were not immediately disclosed
Police detained six people, including five women, who were gathered in front of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman's residence at Gulshan Avenue in the capital this evening (21 February).
The detainees were taken into custody around evening after they gathered outside the residence seeking financial assistance from the prime minister, said Rakibul Hasan, officer-in-charge of Gulshan Police Station.
The identities of the detainees were not immediately disclosed.
According to police, the group, comprising five women and one man, had been sitting in front of the residence and expressed their intention to meet the prime minister.
"They were sitting in front of the resident and said they wanted to meet the prime minister," the OC told The Business Standard.
When asked about the purpose for their sit-in, the individuals reportedly gave inconsistent answers, prompting police to take them to the station for questioning, he said.
"Security personnel asked them to leave the area, but they refused. Later, police were informed and brought them to the station," the OC added.
