The government of Bangladesh will launch 5G (mobile) network by the end of 2020, and before the onset of 2021, ahead of its scheduled launching between 2021 and 2023.

"We will launch 5G network before 2021, even though, according to our election manifesto, it is supposed to be launched between 2021 and 2023," said Mustafa Jabbar, the telecommunications, and information technology minister on Friday at the inauguration ceremony of Teletalk Experience Centre in Rajshahi.

There is a possibility that the state-run BTCL and Teletalk will be the pioneer in introducing the 5G network in the country, he added.

Mustafa Jabbar said, the government has mobilised all its resources and efforts to ensure excess to the internet for all; besides, the government is also working to ensure digital security for all citizens.

As part of its digital security policy, the government blocked 22,000 pornography websites and 2,000 gambling websites. Besides, we are persistently giving our best efforts to stop rumours and militancy on the net,'' the minister added.

Ashok Kumar Biswash, the post and telecommunication secretary, was also present at inauguration ceremony.
