Police, admin reshuffle ahead of polls: 52 senior police officers transferred, 6 districts get new DCs
7 districts get new SPs

Ahead of the upcoming national election, the government is carrying out a major reshuffle in police and administration with a total of 52 senior police officers transferred today (25 August), including new appointments of police superintendents in seven districts.
Changes were made in posts such as additional inspector general of police (Addl-IGP), deputy inspector general (DIG), and additional DIG, according to separate notifications issued by the Public Security Division of the Ministry of Home Affairs.
The seven districts receiving new police superintendents are Barguna, Bagerhat, Narsingdi, Narayanganj, Meherpur, Narail, and Natore.
Also, six districts got new deputy commissioners (DCs) today.
The six districts are Patuakhali, Netrokona, Meherpur, Kushtia, Khulna and Kurigram. The Public Administration Ministry issued separate notifications in this regard today (25 August).
Mohammad Shaheed Hossain Chowdhury, deputy secretary of Environment, Forest and Climate Change Ministry, has been made Patuakhali DC, Md Abdus Salam, deputy secretary of Home Ministry, made the DC of Meherpur and Mohammad Abdullah Al Mahmud Zaman, zonal settlement officer (deputy secretary) of the Department of Land Record and Survey, made DC of Netrokona district.
Besides, deputy commissioner of Patuakhali Abu Hasnat Mohammad Arefin has been transferred to Kushtia while Md Toufiqur Rahman, deputy commissioner of Kushtia, has been transferred to Khulna and Sifat Mehnaz, deputy commissioner of Meherpur has been transferred to Kurigram district.
Earlier, officials at the public administration ministry said the appointments of new DCs are expected to be finalised by September, as the national election is scheduled to be held in February 2026.
Amid criticisms over appointing officials who benefited during the Awami League's tenure as DCs, the government is now exercising greater caution in making such postings.
Like the previous years, the DCs are expected to be appointed again as returning officers during the upcoming parliamentary elections. The preparation of the new "fit list" is already at its final stage. The ministry started preparing such a list on 11 January this year.
