Fifty lakh families across the country will receive 30kg of rice at Tk15 per kg in March and April, Food Adviser Ali Imam Majumder said today (27 February).

"The government will ensure the proper distribution of affordable and free rice under its food-friendly programme to support low-income families," the adviser said while addressing a view exchange meeting on "OMS and Food- Friendly Programme" at the Dhaka Divisional Commissioner's Office.

"Besides, as a special Eid gift from the interim government, one crore low-income families will receive 10kg of rice free of cost. There is no food shortage in the country, but the distribution system needs better discipline," he added.

The adviser directed all deputy commissioners of Dhaka Division to closely monitor the rice distribution especially during Ramadan.

Dhaka Divisional Commissioner Sharf Uddin Ahmed Choudhury presided over the meeting.

Food Secretary Md Masudul Hasan, the director general of the food department, deputy commissioners of Dhaka Division, and senior officials from the food ministry and the Dhaka Divisional Commissioner's Office were also present.
