4 family members burned in a gas line explosion in Dhamrai
The injured were rescued and taken to the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery in Dhaka for treatment.
Four members of a family were injured in a fire caused by accumulated gas at a residence in the Kishan Nagar area of Dhamrai last night (10 March).
The victims are Sumona Badsha, 45; her husband Badsha Mia, 56; and their two sons, Abu Bakar Siddiq, 16, and Arafat, 22.
Md Al Amin Khan, station officer of Dhamrai Fire Service, said, "Upon hearing a loud bang, neighbors rushed to the spot and found the family injured. They managed to douse the fire before we arrived."
"Initial findings suggest the explosion occurred due to a gas line leakage," he added.
The injured were rescued and taken to the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery in Dhaka for treatment.
According to Shawon Bin Rahman, a resident physician at the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery, Sumona suffered burns to 95% of her body. Badsha sustained 2.5% burns, while Abu Bakar Siddiq and Arafat suffered 2% and 1% burns, respectively.
According to local residents, when Sumona lit a match to ignite the gas stove, a loud explosion occurred, setting the kitchen on fire.
Hearing her screams, her husband and two sons rushed from the adjacent room to rescue her, but they were also burned in the process.
Neighbors rushed to the scene after hearing the blast, rescued the victims, and took them to the hospital.
A local resident, Nurul Islam, said, "A loud bang startled us. At first, we could not understand what had happened. Later, we saw the house had been badly damaged, and the condition of Badsha's wife was very critical."
