The Detective Branch (DB) of police have arrested four people, who impersonated themselves as DB members to commit a robbery, in the capital.

The arrestees—  Sohail Ahmed Pallab, 48, Palash Sheikh, 34, Masud Rana, 46, and Robin Halder Paresh, 50 – were apprehended from Dhaka's Meradia and Sadarghat on Wednesday night.

"The four, impersonating as DB officials, robbed some 38 bhori of gold from Titu Pradhaniya, an employee of a Puran Dhaka-based gold shop," Harun Ur Rashid, chief of Detective Branch of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), told journalists during a press briefing on Thursday.

The robbery took place on Sunday. A case was filed over the incident the next day.

"He [Titu] was at the Gabtoli Bus Terminal to take a bus to Tangail to make deliveries when the incident took place," said the DB chief.

A total of Tk5 lakh and 20 bhori of the stolen gold were recovered from their possession, he said.

He also said the police are looking into reports claiming the involvement of a police official, one ASI Zahid, in the robbery.

"Necessary steps will be taken upon further investigation," he added.

However, replying to a question from a journalist, he said the entire police force will not take responsibility for the personal crime of a member.
