A Sirajganj court today (5 January) sentenced four people to death and eight others to life imprisonment in a double murder case.

Judge of the Sirajganj Additional district and Session Judge court-3, Mahbubur Rahman handed down the punishment.

The condemned convicts are Hasanur Rahman Hashu, 45, Kawsar Ali, 42, Moazzemn Hossain Rintu and Zahidul Islam of Ullapara upazila.

The court also fined Tk50,000 each. In default, they will have to suffer three months more in rigorous imprisonment.

The lifers are Ashraf, 50, Motaleb, 40, Rezaul, 32, Dulal, 35, Manirul, 30, Saddam, 28, Bellal, 50 and Awal, 30. They were fined Tk25,000 each, in default, to suffer three months more in rigorous imprisonment.

According to the prosecution, Saiful Islam of Chakpangashi village in Ullapara upazila and his neighbor Abul Kalam had been at loggerheads over different issues.

As a sequel to the enmity, on 21 January 2017, the convicts equipped with lethal weapons, led by Hasanur Rahman Hashu, swooped on the house of Saiful.

Later, they stabbed Saiful, his brother Sona Mia, Abul Kalam and Makbul indiscriminately with sharp weapons, leaving them injured.

They also vandalised the house of Saiful.

Saiful and Makbul succumbed to their injuries at a hospital in Dhaka.

A case was filed in this connection.
