At least 30 people were injured in a clash between residents of two villages in Sarail upazila of Brahmanbaria after an altercation broke out on the way to a BNP rally today (3 September).
The incident took place between 5pm and 8:30pm in the Hospital Mor area when residents of Syedtula and Uchaliyapara villages engaged in a violent confrontation.
Police rushed to the scene and managed to bring the situation under control, Additional Superintendent of Police Obaidur Rahman said, adding that legal action is underway.
Witnesses said supporters of the BNP were gathering at the spot to join a rally marking the party's 47th founding anniversary, led by Sarail upazila BNP General Secretary Nuruzzaman Laskar Tapu.
The clash reportedly began when Mosharraf, a BNP supporter from Uchaliyapara, accidentally bumped into Mujahid of Syedtula village.
The minor altercation escalated into a scuffle, during which Mujahid allegedly struck Mosharraf on the head. The incident quickly spiraled, leading both villages to engage in clashes using sticks and stones.
Nuruzzaman Laskar Tapu could not be reached for a comment over the matter.
