Three people, including a mother and her son, drowned after falling into a waste tank of Provita feed in the Bohuli area of Dhitpur union in Mymensingh's Bhaluka Upazila on Wednesday.

The victims were identified as Ruli Bagchi, 27, her son Rohit Bagchi, 4, and hatchery security guard Ridoy Mia, 22.

Ruli's husband Sajal Bagchi is an engineer of the hatchery and they lived in one of the quarters on the hatchery compound, said Md Mahmudul Islam, officer-in-charge of Bhaluka Police station.

According to police and locals, the child fell into the tank in the evening through a broken manhole.

Ruli rushed to the spot and jumped into the tank to rescue the boy, but she also drowned.

To rescue them, security guard Ridoy also went into the tank. However, none of the three returned. Other workers of the factory informed the police and fire service.

Police and Trishal Fire Service personnel of Bhaluka and Trishal police stations started the rescue operation. They rescued the bodies of Rohit, his mother Ruli and security guard Hridoy at around 8 pm.

Trishal Fire Service Station Officer Munim Sarwa said three people, including a mother and child, died after falling into a waste tank. "We searched for a while and recovered the bodies," he said.

Bhaluka Police Station Officer-in-Charge Mahmudul Islam confirmed the deaths and said the bodies have been recovered.
