268 promoted to deputy secretary; 75% from admin
The public administration ministry issued two separate gazette notifications confirming the promotions today

The government has promoted 268 officials to the post of deputy secretary. Of them, 198 are from three batches of the administration cadre, including six serving as first secretaries in different embassies. The remaining 70 officials are from 24 other cadres.
The public administration ministry issued two separate notifications granting the promotions today (28 August).
A total of 262 promoted officials have been attached to the ministry as officers on special duty (OSD). Most of them belong to the 29th and 30th BCS batches. The officials working in various embassies will join their new posts through the respective authorities abroad.
Once again, 75% of those promoted to deputy secretary are from the administration cadre and 25% from other cadres. This is despite the Public Administration Reform Commission recommending a 50–50 split between administration and other cadres. Meanwhile, the 25 other cadres have long demanded the removal of the quota system and promotion based on examinations.
