20 Sust students expelled, 17 suspended over attacks on protesters during July Uprising
Sources say all expelled and suspended students were involved with Chhatra League, which is now banned in the country.

The Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (Sust) authorities have expelled 20 students and suspended 17 others for varying periods over attacks on protesters during last year's July Uprising.
Sust Proctor Md Mokhlesur Rahman confirmed the punitive measures last night (26 September), but he did not disclose the names of the punished students.
According to sources familiar with the matter, all the expelled and suspended students were involved with Chhatra League, which is now banned in the country.
Of them, 12 were expelled for taking part in attacks on protesting students between 14 July and 5 August, while eight others received expulsion for keeping weapons in dormitories. Notably, some of them faced both allegations.
In addition, 17 students were suspended for two to four semesters.
Nineteen others, against whom charges could not be proven, were exculpated, while several were let off with warnings.
About the 19 students, in weapons-related allegations, Mokhlesur explained, "There was a proposal to suspend some for alleged involvement with weapons. But upon review, we found that many had been allotted one room but had been staying in another. Suspending them would have been unjust. After verification, they were exonerated."
