Legal notice sent seeking Tk5 crore compensation over 2-year-old's death in tube-well shaft
2-year-old Sajid died after falling into an abadoned tube-well shaft in Rajshahi.
A legal notice has been served to the Barind Multipurpose Development Authority (BMDA) and other concerned parties over the death of two-year-old Sajid, who fell into an uncovered tube well in Tanore upazila of Rajshahi.
The notice demands Tk5 crore in compensation for Sajid's family and calls for immediate measures to seal all uncovered tube wells to prevent similar tragedies.
The legal notice was sent today (14 December) by Supreme Court lawyer Advocate Md Monirul Islam Mia.
Sajid had fallen into the shaft around 1pm on Wednesday (10 December) while walking behind his mother near a field close to their home. Fire Service and Civil Defence units began rescue efforts immediately and, after more than 32 hours of continuous work, managed to retrieve him in an unconscious state after digging more than 40 feet deep.
He was taken to Tanore Upazila Health Complex, where doctors declared him dead.
