Two motorcyclists have been killed and one injured after being hit by a car in Kushtia.
The accident occurred around 1:30am this morning (2 March) near Kushtia District School on the Kushtia-Jhenaidah highway.
The deceased were identified as Rahat Islam Palash, 30, and Fahim Anik, 23.
Palash, son of Asadul Islam Molla from Kushtia's Mollategeriya area, was employed at the British American Tobacco Company in Savar.
Anik, son of Abdul Mannan from the Kushtia Kamalpur area, was a freelancer who had completed his studies. The victims were reportedly uncle and nephew.
Another person, Tanvir Ghani, 23, was injured in the incident and is currently receiving treatment at Kushtia General Hospital.
"The three motorcyclists were travelling from Mojompur after having tea to attend a pre-wedding event at a cousin's house in Mollategeriya," said Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Kushtia Model Police Station Mosharraf Hossein.
When they reached the front of Kushtia District School, a speeding car coming from the opposite direction hit them and fled the scene, he added.
Mosharraf said locals rescued the three in critical condition and took them to the 250-bed Kushtia General Hospital, where the on-duty doctor declared Rahat Islam Palash dead.
"Around 2:30am, Fahim Anik also died while undergoing treatment. The injured Tanvir Ghani remains under medical care at Kushtia General Hospital," he added.
