2 Awami League leaders held after procession to Shaheed Minar in Gaibandha
The detainees are Emarul Islam Sabin, a district Awami League leader and former union parishad chairman, and Shahin Chokaddar, acting general secretary of a union unit in Sadullapur.
Police detained two leaders of the activities-banned Awami League after they brought out a procession and paid tribute at the Shaheed Minar in Gaibandha this afternoon (21 February).
The incident took place around 3pm at the municipal park of the district town.
The detainees are Emarul Islam Sabin, a district Awami League leader and former union parishad chairman, and Shahin Chokaddar, acting general secretary of a union unit in Sadullapur.
Gaibandha Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge Abdullah Al Mamun said legal action is being taken against the two individuals.
According to locals, Awami League members brought out a procession from their party office at the Railgate area and laid wreaths at the Shaheed Minar. Police arrested the two leaders on their way out.
