A murder case has been filed against 158 individuals over the killing of Sakinur Rahman, a 32-year-old readymade garment (RMG) worker in Ashulia.

He was shot on 5 August during a protest and was declared dead on arrival by the doctors when rushed to the Gonoshasthaya Samaj Vittik Medical College Hospital.

Mosammat Sharmin, Sakinur's wife, filed the case with Ashulia Police Station yesterday (19 August), said AFM Sayed, officer-in-charge (OC) of Ashulia Police Station.

According to the case documents, Sakinur lived with his family in Ashulia's Bhadail Paschimpara area and was employed in an RMG factory.

The case was filed against UP Chairman of Yearpur, Shamim Ahmed Suman; UP Chairman of Pathalia, Parvez Dewan; UP Chairman of Ashulia, Shahabuddin Madbor; Jubo League leader Kabir Sarkar, along with various levels of the local Awami League (AL) and its affiliated organisations, totalling 158 individuals.

As per the case statement, Sakinur went to the local Bolibhadra market to buy essentials around 2pm on 5 August.

Around 2:45pm, his wife received news of him being shot and later found his body at Ashulia's Gonoshasthaya Samaj Vittik Medical College Hospital.

On the day of the incident, the accused assaulted and shot Sakinur in the Baipail area, the case document mentioned.

Later, he was rescued as injured and taken to the hospital, where doctors declared him dead.

The next day, Sakinur's body was buried in his village home.
