Fifteen Tangail Medical College Hospital employees, hired through a contractor agency in 2022, have been dismissed over their alleged involvement in irregularities without the knowledge of the hospital's director.

The contractor Maasranga Security Services Private Limited, in a notice issued on 31 December, sacked the employees working in the posts of lab attendant, ward boy, electrician, cook and security guard at the hospital.

The notice states that out of the 90 people hired through outsourcing by Tangail Medical College Hospital, 15 have been terminated for engaging in "activities contrary to office discipline as per condition no-3 of the appointment letter".

The medical college authorities, however, are not aware of the dismissal, said Abdul Quddus, director of the hospital.

"No letter in this regard has been given to the hospital authorities from the contractor agency," he said.

Md Jilan, manager of Maasranga Security Services Private Limited, said the employees were dismissed from their jobs in view of a complaint made by the hospital supervisor.

Tangail Medical College Hospital Supervisor Al Amin said, "There are various allegations against the dismissed employees, including holding processions, meetings and other political programmes during the Awami League regime, and taking money from people by promising jobs. For this reason, they were dismissed."

Sheikh Hasina Medical College Hospital was recently renamed as Tangail Medical College Hospital after the fall of the Sheikh Hasina-led government on 5 August.

Dismissed lab attendant Papia Akhter said, "They say that we were discharged because we were appointed during the Awami League. We do not belong to any party.

"Such a notice has been issued without any reason. The company did not inform us beforehand. We do not know if the discharge letter is correct at all. Many of us are still on duty at the hospital."
