15 shops gutted in fire at Rajshahi New Market

A fire broke out at Rajshahi New Market in the early hours of today (16 March), gutting at least 15 shops.
Two units of the fire service brought the flame under control after half an hour of effort. No casualties were reported in this incident.
"It is believed that the fire originated from a short circuit. However, the extent of the damage has not yet been determined," said Didarul Alam, assistant director of Rajshahi Fire Service and Civil Defence.
Eyewitnesses said that around 1am, they noticed a fire in several shops inside the New Market and informed the fire service. Afterwards, two units of the fire service brought the fire under control after nearly half an hour of effort.
Meanwhile, curious onlookers gathered at the New Market after hearing about the fire. Among the burnt shops were grocery stores and temporary shops selling fresh produce.
