142 Bangladeshi nationals who returned here from Italy amid the coronavirus outbreak, were found in good health after the initial test at Ashkona Hajj Camp.

"Their samples have been collected for further test," said Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control and Research (IEDCR) Director Dr Meerjady Sabrina Flora said at a regular press briefing in Dhaka today.

"After getting the report, we will decide whether they will be self-quarantined at home or needs institutional quarantine," she added.

IEDCR also urged people with illness like high blood pressure, diabetes to be more careful as sick people are at high risk of getting coronavirus infection.

A total of 142 Italy-returnee Bangladeshis have been quarantined at Ashkona Hajj camp after arriving home around 8am on a flight of Emirates Airlines today.

In Italy, millions are locked down and more than 1,000 people have died from the coronavirus.

The death toll from coronavirus or COVID-19 reached 5,436 globally as of Saturday. Besides, 145,810 cases were reported from around the world.

On March 8, Bangladesh reported its first three cases of coronavirus, whereas two of them have completely recovered.
