The 12 city corporations are Dhaka South, Dhaka North, Chattogram, Khulna, Rajshahi, Sylhet, Barishal, Narayanganj, Cumilla, Rangpur, Gazipur and Mymensingh

12 city corporation, 323 municipality councillors removed

Councillors of 12 city corporations and 323 municipalities across the country have been removed, as announced in a notification issued by the Local Government Division, under the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Co-operatives on Thursday.

The 12 city corporations are Dhaka South, Dhaka North, Chattogram, Khulna, Rajshahi, Sylhet, Barishal, Narayanganj, Cumilla, Rangpur, Gazipur and Mymensingh.

At the same time, the councillors of 323 municipalities were also removed through a separate notification.

Earlier on 19 August, the mayors of these city corporations were removed. The government then appointed administrators in the 12 city corporations.

Meanwhile, all remaining zilla parishad members, except those from the three hill districts, have been removed.

The chairmen of these zilla parishads were also removed and administrators appointed. 

Earlier, the chairmen of 493 upazila parishads of the country were removed by a separate order of the same division. In their place, upazila nirbahi officers have been given the responsibility of administrators.
