SM Akiqul Islam, officer-in-charge of Abhaynagar police station, said that they went to the spot immediately after being informed.

"Efforts are on to arrest those involved in the incident," he added.

The incident took place last Thursday night in the area adjacent to Bhairab Bridge in Masharhati village of the municipality.

Locals said it was announced late at night from the mike of Masharhati Sheikhpara Jame Masjid that robbers have entered the area.

Around 12:30pm, a group of unidentified people came to the tea shop adjacent to Bhairab Bridge and attacked them.

The unidentified people also ransacked Liton and Halim's house. Later, locals rushed and rescued the injured and took them to the Abhaynagar Upazila Health Complex where Motiar Biswas was declared dead upon arrival.

Two other people were sent to Khulna Medical College Hospital with serious injuries.

A tense situation has been prevailing in the area since the incident.

An Army team also visited the spot.
