'Your duty doesn't end after voting': Jamaat ameer urges voters to stay vigilant
He cautioned that those fearful of defeat might spread false allegations and create intimidation and panic.
Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Shafiqur Rahman has urged voters not to return home without ensuring the election results are secured, saying casting a vote alone does not end a voter's responsibility.
Addressing a press conference at Jamaat's central office in the capital's Mogbazar today (10 February), Shafiqur warned voters to remain alert and vigilant even after voting.
"Your duty does not end after casting your vote. Do not return without having the election result in hand," he said.
He cautioned that those fearful of defeat might spread false allegations and create intimidation and panic.
"Even after voting, your vote can be tampered with. Therefore, voters must ensure the results are protected," he added.
The Jamaat chief said people had not been able to reflect their opinions in the last four consecutive elections, but this time the situation could change, as public interest and enthusiasm were visibly high.
He also said that the party's 11-party electoral alliance was fully prepared to cooperate with the Election Commission and the administration to ensure a free, fair, and acceptable election.
Responding to a question on accepting election results, he said, "When the people say the election was fair, we will respectfully accept it – whether we win or sit in the opposition.
"We have deep trust in the people and believe they will deliver the right verdict."
Leaders of the 11-party electoral alliance, including National Citizen Party Convener Nahid Islam and Bangladesh Khelafat Majlis Ameer Maulana Mamunul Haque, were present at the press conference.
