Shafiqur promises 'new Bangladesh' after polls, vows equal justice
He said the "new Bangladesh" would not be bigger or smaller in size, but its character would change, transforming into a welfare-oriented state.
Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami will tackle corruption at its root if voted to power, the party's Ameer Shafiqur Rahman said today (6 February), declaring that it would no longer "pull at the leaves and branches of corruption, but pull it by the neck".
Speaking at an election rally at the RC College ground in Mehendiganj upazila of Barishal, Shafiqur said Jamaat would work to serve the people by standing beside them, adding that a "new Bangladesh" would be born on 13 February following the election.
He said the "new Bangladesh" would not be bigger or smaller in size, but its character would change, transforming into a welfare-oriented state.
The Jamaat ameer further said there would be no discrimination in ensuring justice, stressing that crimes committed by ordinary citizens and those committed by the president or prime minister would be treated equally.
"No one will be spared. Everyone will be brought under the rule of law," he said.
The rally was also attended by Barrister Asaduzzaman Fuad, general secretary of the AB Party and the 11-party alliance candidate for Barishal-3 constituency, among others.
