Sarwar Tushar alleges secret campaigning for Jamaat candidate in Narsingdi-2
“Alliance means commitment. No principled organisation can violate that commitment,” he said
National Citizen Party (NCP) Joint Convener Sarwar Tushar, the 11-party alliance candidate for the Narsingdi-2 constituency, has alleged that a group of people are secretly campaigning for the seat's Jamaat-e-Islami candidate, despite the party's instruction to support Tushar's campaign as part of the alliance agreement.
In a post on Facebook on Sunday (1 February), Tushar said, "Alliance means commitment. No principled organisation can violate that commitment."
As Jamaat unveiled its election manifesto this afternoon (4 February), Tushar again raised his concerns in another Facebook post. "A group of people are campaigning for Jamaat-e-Islami in Narsingdi-2. Today, they even organised a procession. Meanwhile, Jamaat officials have claimed they were unaware of these activities."
Jamaat had initially nominated its own candidate for the Narsingdi-2 seat for the upcoming polls on 12 February. However, in accordance with the 11-party alliance agreement, the seat was conceded to NCP's candidate.
As the seat's Jamaat candidate failed to withdraw candidacy within the stipulated time, Jamaat submitted a letter to the Election Commission on 23 January requesting the cancellation of the candidate's symbol allocation but the request was not implemented.
