Rumeen Farhana alleges attempts to stamp ‘Date Palm’ symbol at 8 polling centres
She said she has sent the names of the eight centres to the police, the army and the deputy commissioner.
Alleging that supporters of the BNP alliance candidate are attempting to forcibly stamp ballots in favour of the "Date Palm" symbol at eight polling centres in Ashuganj upazila, independent candidate Barrister Rumeen Farhana of the Brahmanbaria-2 (Sarail, Ashuganj and part of Bijoynagar) constituency raised the complaint today (12 February).
She made the allegation to journalists after casting her vote at Shahbazpur North Government Primary School polling centre in Sarail at around 9:15am today.
Rumeen Farhana is contesting the election with the "Duck" symbol, while BNP alliance candidate and Bangladesh Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Vice-President Maulana Muhammad Zunaid Al Habib is running with his party's 'Date Palm' symbol.
Rumeen said she has sent the names of the eight centres to the police, the army and the deputy commissioner.
She also alleged that her party activists have faced administrative harassment, claiming that two of her supporters were detained by police on last night without any complaint being filed against them.
She further alleged that there had been a plan to stamp ballots for the "Date Palm" symbol at night, and that her supporters had been guarding against it when the two activists were detained.
