Patuakhali-3: BNP’s Hasan Mamun congratulates Nurul Haque Nur on victory
Nur, contesting with the “truck” symbol, secured 73,934 votes, while Hasan Mamun received 47,930 votes. Nur won the seat by a margin of 26,004 votes.
BNP leader Hasan Mamun has congratulated BNP-allied candidate and Gono Odhikar Parishad President Nurul Haque Nur on his victory in the Patuakhali-3 (Galachipa-Dashmina) constituency.
In a Facebook post last night (12 February), Mamun wrote, "Congratulations, VP Nurul Haque Nur. Newly elected member of parliament of Patuakhali-3."
Hasan Mamun contested the election as an independent candidate with the "horse" symbol in the same constituency. He was expelled from the BNP for defying party instructions by running in the election.
According to Shahidul Islam, central publicity secretary of Gono Odhikar Parishad and coordinator of Nur's election monitoring cell, Nur, contesting with the "truck" symbol, secured 73,934 votes, while Hasan Mamun received 47,930 votes. Nur won the seat by a margin of 26,004 votes.
In the 13th national election, the BNP left the Patuakhali-3 seat to its simultaneous movement ally, Gono Odhikar Parishad, nominating Nurul Haque Nur as the alliance candidate.
However, BNP Central Executive Committee member Hasan Mamun collected his nomination paper and later submitted it.
On 30 December, the BNP expelled him from the party on charges of breaching party discipline.
Earlier, on 28 December, one day before submitting his nomination papers, Hasan Mamun announced that he had voluntarily resigned from the party.
