A party is trying to create tension across country: Salahuddin
“Their objective is to question the credibility of the election,” he said, adding that those who obstruct the democratic transition process will be rejected by the people.
BNP Standing Committee member Salahuddin Ahmed has alleged that a political party is attempting to create tension across the country by causing multiple incidents, with the aim of casting doubt on the upcoming election.
Speaking at an election rally at Uttar Harbang Bottatali Station in Chakaria Upazila this morning (29 January), Salahuddin Ahmed said that in recent days, a number of scattered incidents have occurred in different parts of the country.
He accused Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami of using these incidents to fuel nationwide tension by organising meetings and processions.
"Their objective is to question the credibility of the election," he said, adding that those who obstruct the democratic transition process will be rejected by the people.
He said responsibility for maintaining law and order lies with the government, the Election Commission, and the Ministry of Home Affairs. "The language of protest must remain within the bounds of protest. Disorder cannot be created in the name of protest," he added.
Responding to criticism of BNP's policy proposals, Salahuddin Ahmed said some claim the party's plans are unrealistic. "But BNP has governed the country multiple times and has experience in running the state. BNP knows how to implement plans for the welfare of the people," he said, noting that party leader Tarique Rahman has clearly stated that BNP has a roadmap and is moving forward with it.
Criticising Jamaat, he said, "Just because a party has 'Islam' in its name does not mean it represents Islam. People cannot be misled through such deception. They are cheating the people."
He added that if Jamaat had presented a clear plan or election manifesto, voters could have judged and voted accordingly. "Instead, they are misleading people by exploiting religion," he said.
