Nearly 28,000 firearms deposited, 20,288 yet to be surrendered ahead of polls
A total of 48,283 firearm licences have been issued to individuals, of which 20,288 firearms are yet to be deposited, Inspector General (IG) of Police Baharul Alam said at a press conference at Police Headquarters yesterday (10 February).
The interim government has enforced restrictions on licensed firearms to help ensure a free, fair, and peaceful national election, leading to the deposit of 27,995 legally owned weapons across the country.

Responding to a question about personal weapons looted from police stations, Baharul said any weapon poses a threat and noted that firearms also enter the country through various channels.
He added that all necessary measures have been taken to address the issue.
