Mirza Abbas urges party members to remain patient to ensure peaceful election
Criticising rivals, Mirza Abbas said parties with no electoral experience and no record of serving the people were trying to discredit the BNP.
BNP Standing Committee member and Dhaka-8 candidate Mirza Abbas has urged party leaders and activists to exercise patience and restraint to ensure a peaceful election.
Speaking at a brief rally ahead of a mass procession at the Brothers Club ground in the capital today (28 January), the senior BNP leader called on supporters not to be provoked under any circumstances.
"Remain calm in the face of provocation. Victory is on our side. Be patient for a few more days and do not fall into any conspiracy. After the election, we must all remain alert to protect peace in the country," he said.
He further appealed to party activists to refrain from any provocative statements or actions, saying that maintaining peace after the election would be a shared responsibility of both the BNP and the public.
The mass procession began in front of the Brothers Club ground, marched through various roads of the Dhaka-8 constituency, and ended at the BNP central office.
Later in the evening, Mirza Abbas was scheduled to hold election meetings, discussions and door-to-door campaigning with voters at Moghbazar's Century Arcade Avenue Society.
Addressing the gathering, Mirza Abbas said the country's independence and sovereignty must be safeguarded and a fair electoral environment ensured.
He also warned of alleged attempts to disrupt the election. "There are conspiracies underway to sabotage the polls and divert people from the voting process," he claimed.
However, he said the BNP has never attacked its opponents despite participating in many elections. "We have always contested elections in a festive atmosphere. Today as well, our leaders and activists are playing a calm and restrained role," he said.
Criticising rivals, Mirza Abbas said parties with no electoral experience and no record of serving the people were trying to discredit the BNP.
"They have nothing constructive to say. Their only agenda is to speak against BNP. Their aim is to keep the people permanently neglected," he said, adding that the BNP remains the only party committed to protecting national interests.
