Jamaat wins three Bagerhat seats; BNP secures one
Voting in all four constituencies was held peacefully yesterday
Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami has secured three of the four parliamentary seats in Bagerhat district, while the BNP won one seat, according to unofficial results announced by the returning officer.
Voting in all four constituencies was held peacefully yesterday (12 February).
In Bagerhat-1 (Chitalmari, Fakirhat and Mollahat), Jamaat candidate Maulana Mashiur Rahman was unofficially declared elected after securing 117,966 votes with the party's scales symbol. His nearest rival, BNP candidate Kapil Krishna, received 114,590 votes with the sheaf of paddy symbol. The constituency includes three upazilas and 147 polling centres.
In Bagerhat-2 (Sadar and Kachua), Jamaat candidate Sheikh Monzurul Haque Rahad won by a wide margin, securing 116,370 votes. His closest competitor, BNP candidate Barrister Sheikh Mohammad Zakir Hossain, garnered 66,274 votes, giving Rahad a victory margin of 50,096 votes.
In Bagerhat-3 (Mongla-Rampal), BNP candidate Sheikh Faridul Islam emerged victorious with 103,711 votes, defeating Jamaat candidate Advocate Abdul Wadud, who received 83,705 votes.
In Bagerhat-4 (Morelganj-Sharankhola), Jamaat candidate Abdul Alim was unofficially elected with 116,067 votes. BNP candidate Somnath Dey secured 98,326 votes, resulting in a margin of 17,741 votes.
Officials from the respective upazila administrations and assistant returning officers confirmed the results.
