CID chief orders on-duty police not to post election content on social media, take photos with candidates
The CID chief noted that all CID members assigned to field duties have already received special election training on the do’s and don’ts from Bangladesh Police Headquarters.
Chief of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), Additional IGP Md Sibgat Ullah, has instructed police personnel assigned to election duties not to post any election-related photos, posts, or comments on social media.
He also directed them to refrain from taking photographs with any candidate or political figure and from accepting any form of assistance from political individuals.
The CID chief issued the directives today (5 February) during a briefing at the CID headquarters for field-level police members ahead of the national election and referendum.
Emphasising neutrality and professionalism in carrying out election duties, the CID chief said, "Election duty is a sacred trust for all members of Bangladesh Police, including the CID. It is our moral responsibility to uphold neutrality, integrity and professionalism while performing this duty."
The CID chief noted that all CID members assigned to field duties have already received special election training on the do's and don'ts from Bangladesh Police Headquarters.
He added that senior local officials in the election areas would provide further necessary briefings prior to polling day to ensure effective coordination among the various forces and organisations involved in election security.
Emphasising impartial conduct, he instructed officers to arrange their own food and personal necessities during duty hours and strictly refrain from accepting food, assistance, or cooperation from any individual or group, so that impartiality is not questioned under any circumstances.
Sibgat also called on officers to maintain a smart and disciplined outlook, wear their police uniforms with dignity, and perform their duties with patience, restraint, and discipline.
The CID chief clearly directed that no police member on election duty is allowed to share election-related photos, posts, comments, or information on social media, nor to take photographs with candidates or political figures.
He expressed optimism, saying he was fully confident that through dedication, professionalism, and a strong sense of responsibility, CID members would help ensure a peaceful, fair, and impartial election.
