Chattogram-11 records 9.87% turnout in first 2 hours
A total of 1,506 votes were cast in four centres between 7:30am and 9:30am
Voting in Chattogram-11 (Bandar–Patenga) began at 7:30am today (12 January).
According to figures available until 9:30am, four centres recorded a turnout of 9.87% in the first two hours.
Presiding officers said 1,506 voters cast ballots out of 15,265 registered voters at those centres. An orderly presence of voters was observed since morning.
At the National Maritime Institute women's centre, turnout stood at 5.33%, with 198 of 3,717 registered voters casting ballots by 9:30am.
At the men's centre of the same institute, 409 of 3,628 registered voters cast ballots, marking a turnout of 11.27%.
At Barrister Sultan Ahmed Chowdhury University College centre No 106, 500 of 3,929 voters cast ballots in the first two hours, recording a turnout of 12.73%.
At centre No 107 of the same college, 399 of 3,991 registered voters cast ballots.
In Chattogram-11, voting is taking place at 143 centres for 495,278 registered voters. Police, Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and Ansar members have been deployed to maintain law and order and ensure security at polling stations.
Candidates contesting the seat include BNP's Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury, Jamaat-e-Islami's Muhammad Shafiul Alam, Islamic Front Bangladesh's Muhammad Abu Taher, Bangladesh Socialist Party's Dipa Majumder, Gono Forum's Ujjal Bhowmik, Jatiya Party's Abu Taher, Basad's Nizamul Haque Al Kaderi, Insaniyat Biplob's Md Aziz Mian, Islami Andolon Bangladesh's Md Nur Uddin, and independent candidate Md Jahangir Bhuiyan.
