BNP urges govt to ensure peaceful environment until final results
Mahdi alleged that opposing political quarters, fearing defeat, have been instigating violence and untoward incidents across the country since last night.
BNP has called upon the Election Commission, law enforcement agencies, and the interim government to maintain a peaceful and uninterrupted electoral environment until the final election results are officially declared.
Speaking at a press conference in Gulshan this afternoon (12 February), Mahdi Amin, spokesperson for the party's election management committee, expressed confidence in a landslide victory.
"The victory of the 'Sheaf of Paddy' and the BNP is going to be ensured by the people's votes," he said.
However, Mahdi alleged that opposing political quarters, fearing defeat, have been instigating violence and untoward incidents across the country since last night.
Mahdi further asserted that such attempts to disrupt the process would fail to stop the party's momentum. "Sensing an inevitable victory for the BNP, they are making these desperate efforts, but they will not succeed. The people's vote will ensure our triumph," Amin added.
In regards to election irregularities, he said, "Election is being held at approximately 43,000 polling stations across the country. The voting process is still ongoing, and a complete picture of the situation is not yet in our hands."
However, "Certain irregularities and untoward incidents are being reported today in various places nationwide, including Hatiya in Noakhali and Chauddagram in Cumilla. While long queues of voters are visible at some centres, the pace of the voting process is not as expected," he claimed.
He urged the authorities to urgently take necessary measures to expedite the voting process as he draw the attention of the concerned authorities to this matter.
He said that he expects those in charge to resolve these issues with professionalism and neutrality.
"Voting is a civic right of the people. The public gathering visible at the polling centres will find its full meaning by the end of the day," he said.
