There is no shortage of fertiliser in the country, and the issue is being exaggerated through rumours more than it reflects any actual crisis, Minister for Disaster Management and Relief Asadul Habib Dulu said.

The minister made the remarks yesterday (26 August) afternoon while responding to reporters after visiting Lalmonirhat Sadar Hospital and attending a review meeting.

"The government is providing substantial subsidies on fertiliser for farmers. To ensure there are no problems in distribution, initiatives have been taken to increase the number of dealers," Asadul said.
"Another dealer will be appointed in each union, while the number of retailers will also be increased," he said.
He warned that strict action would be taken against any unscrupulous dealer found hoarding fertiliser to create an artificial shortage.
If necessary, mobile courts would be conducted to recover hoarded fertiliser and legal action would be taken against those responsible.
The minister also said there was no reason for people to panic unnecessarily over fertiliser supplies, adding that the government was taking all necessary measures to ensure supply in line with farmers' needs.
