US, Israel recognise 'no red line' in committing crimes: Iran's UN envoy
These acts constitute clear war crimes and crimes against humanity, says Amir Saeid Iravani.
Iran's ambassador to the United Nations has accused the United States and Israel of committing war crimes in the ongoing conflict, saying the two countries "recognise no red line" in carrying out attacks.
Speaking to reporters at the UN headquarters in New York City on Saturday (7 March), Iran's envoy Amir Saeid Iravani said at least 1,332 Iranian civilians have been killed so far in the war, with thousands more injured, reports The Guardian.
He alleged that US and Israeli strikes have been "indiscriminate" and deliberately targeted densely populated civilian areas as well as key infrastructure, including schools, medical facilities and recreational and sports sites.
"These acts constitute clear war crimes and crimes against humanity," Iravani said.
He also urged the United Nations Security Council to take immediate action, warning that failure to do so could have wider consequences for the international community.
"Failure to act will have catastrophic consequences. Today it is Iran; tomorrow it could be any UN member state," he said.
