US-Israeli strike near Iran's Bushehr nuclear plant kills one; Tehran says it hit Israel-linked vessel in Hormuz
Iran’s official news agency Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA) reported that the strike occurred around 8:30am, targeting an area close to the facility in southern Iran.
A projectile from a US-Israeli strike hit near Iran's Bushehr nuclear power plant on Saturday morning, killing one person, according to state media.
Iran's official news agency Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA) reported that the strike occurred around 8:30am, targeting an area close to the facility in southern Iran.
The victim was identified as a security guard at the site, while no damage to the plant itself was reported, reports AFP.
The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) said it had been informed of the incident by Iranian authorities. In a statement, the agency said a member of the plant's protection staff was killed by projectile fragments and that a building sustained minor damage from shockwaves.
"No increase in radiation levels was reported," the IAEA added.
Meanwhile, Iran claimed it carried out a retaliatory strike on an Israel-linked vessel in the Strait of Hormuz using a drone, setting the ship on fire, reports Reuters.
The claim was reported by Iranian state media citing a commander of the Revolutionary Guards navy.
There was no immediate response from Israel.
Elsewhere, US-Israeli strikes also targeted a petrochemical hub in Mahshahr in southwestern Iran, injuring at least five people, according to Iranian media reports citing local officials. The extent of the damage remains unclear.
Another strike reportedly hit a cement plant in Bandar Khamir in southern Iran, though officials said there were no casualties and operations at the facility continued uninterrupted.
The developments come amid escalating tensions in the region, with continued exchanges raising concerns over wider disruption, particularly around the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz.
