US encourages investment in Morocco’s southern provinces following recognition of sovereignty
The United States will encourage American companies to invest in Morocco's southern provinces.
US Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau announced on Wednesday the move is taking place following Washington's recognition of Moroccan sovereignty over the region, reports the Hespress EN.
After a meeting with Moroccan Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York, Landau told reporters that the decision is part of broader Trump-era efforts to promote economic and trade diplomacy.
The United States has recognised Morocco's sovereignty over the Sahara, Landau said.
"As part of global initiatives to strengthen economic and commercial diplomacy, we are pleased to announce that we will encourage US companies interested in investing in this region of Morocco."
He also underlined the close and longstanding ties between the two countries, stressing that the US administration is ready to work with Morocco to foster prosperity, peace, and stability in the region.
