Swedish activist Greta Thunberg fires back at Trump over ‘see a doctor’ remark
“I would kindly receive any recommendations you might have to deal with these so-called ‘anger management problems,’ since — judging by your impressive track record — you seem to be suffering from them too," she says
Greta Thunberg responded sharply to Donald Trump after he suggested she suffers from anger issues, implying that the US president may be the one needing help managing his temper.
"I hear Donald Trump has once again expressed his flattering opinions on my character, and I appreciate his concern for my mental health," the 22-year-old Swedish activist said in an Instagram post this morning (7 October).
"I would kindly receive any recommendations you might have to deal with these so-called 'anger management problems,' since — judging by your impressive track record — you seem to be suffering from them too," she added.
Trump had labelled Thunberg "angry" and a "troublemaker" following her detention and subsequent deportation by Israel, after the 42-boat-strong Global Sumud Flotilla attempted to deliver humanitarian aid to Gaza but was intercepted by Israeli forces, reports Politico.
"She's just a troublemaker... She's no longer into the environment now. She has an anger management problem. I think she should see a doctor," Trump told reporters. "Have you ever watched her? She's a young person. She's so angry, she's so crazy."
This is not the first clash between the two. In June, Trump called Thunberg "strange" and "angry" over her first mission to deliver aid to Gaza, prompting her to respond that the world needs "more angry women."
During his first term, Trump mocked the then-16-year-old climate activist, sarcastically describing her as a "very happy young girl" after she delivered a speech at the United Nations on climate action urgency.
Thunberg, who first rose to prominence by initiating the "Fridays for Future" climate strikes in 2018, has since expanded her activism to include humanitarian support for Gaza.
She arrived in Greece yesterday after being expelled from Israel, where she and about 160 other campaigners from the flotilla were greeted with cheers. Israel's foreign ministry confirmed that a total of 171 activists were expelled from the flotilla's vessels.
