Sonam Wangchuk vows to continue fast until students meet lawmakers

Sonam Wangchuk has announced that he will continue his indefinite hunger strike until student leaders protesting the NEET-UG paper leak are allowed to meet members of parliament or lawmakers visit him at the Delhi hospital where he is undergoing treatment.

In a handwritten note shared on social media by his wife, Gitanjali Angmo, Wangchuk said he had decided to extend his fast, now in its 23rd day, after witnessing what he described as the "brutality" faced by peaceful protesters, reports NDTV.

"I will continue my fast until the youth leaders are allowed to meet the parliamentarians at the Sansad Bhawan or I am allowed to meet them here at the hospital," he wrote.

Wangchuk also expressed hope that the government would fix accountability for the NEET-UG paper leak before then and urged authorities to allow students to present their grievances before parliament.

His statement came hours after Union Minister JP Nadda held talks with representatives of the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), a satirical political group leading protests over the examination scandal. The group submitted a list of demands, including accountability for the alleged paper leak and the resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.

Meanwhile, the Delhi Police urged the public to be cautious about misinformation circulating on social media regarding the protests.

Separately, the Delhi High Court sought Wangchuk's complete medical records while hearing an appeal filed by his wife challenging a lower court's refusal to allow his transfer from Safdarjung Hospital to Medanta Hospital.

A division bench led by Chief Justice Devendra Kumar Upadhyaya said pathology reports alone cannot determine a patient's condition and must be assessed alongside the patient's overall clinical condition. The court directed Safdarjung Hospital to submit all pathology reports and health bulletins related to Wangchuk's treatment.
